WHY GO TO CHURCH?
A week or so ago, we handed out cards asking for your reasons why a person
should belong to a church. The reason for asking was to enable each person to
verbalize their reasons for being a church-goer so that it would be easier to
explain those reasons to non-attenders. Below are some of the reasons that we
received:
Matthew 18:20 - "For when two or three are gathered together in my
name, I am there in the midst of them."
Church is a safe haven in a complicated world.
Church is a place where I can develop whatever God-given talents I may
have.
Biblical teachings give me direction.
Church gives me a place to share my faith with others, thus
strengthening it.
Belonging means that I have committed myself to what the church stands
for.
Belonging gives me peace of mind because it makes sense out of life.
Matthew 3:16 - "And when Jesus was baptized, he went up
immediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the
Sprit of God descending like a dove, and alighting on him; . . ."
Hebrews 13:15,16 - "Through him then let us continually offer up a
sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his
name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices
are pleasing to God."
Hebrews 10:25 - ". . . not neglecting to meet together, as is the
habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day
drawing near."
Because it is commanded by God.
To have a place to communicate with the God who has been my guide
through many troubled times.
To assist in communicating the words of my God to those less believing.
Being a part of a group dedicated to various acts and works of helping
those less fortunate.
When talking to an un-churched person, remember that they may not be
familiar with the Bible and/or religious, Christian, and church "language."
Speak in secular terms that people understand. For instance, instead of
speaking in terms of salvation, rather say something like, "I know that
when I die, I will go to heaven."
CWF GROUP SESSIONS ACTIVE
The CWF has begun it's Fall activities. There are single groups and a
combined group. Single groups meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month. A
combined group (both single groups) meets quarterly on the 2nd Thursday of the
month. Please see the dates below for the meeting times. The study this year
is on Mexico, so you might want to look around and see what Mexican artifacts
you have at home, as there may be a call for them sooner or later.
