Our MissionThe mission of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in McAllen, Texas shall be as revealed in the New Testament; to win people to a living faith in Jesus Christ by proclaiming and living out the gospel of Christ that all may grow in the knowledge of Him to do God's will by His grace. Our VisionFirst Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) will position itself on the growing edge of McAllen, Texas in order to:
Disciples of ChristThe Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) began on the American
frontier around 1800 out of a concern that the church should not be divided by
doctrine, government, or worship, but instead should express unity based on our
common faith in Jesus Christ. Christianity is a matter of common commitment to
Christ rather than specific ideas or practices. Church BeliefAs members of the Christian Church, we confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and proclaim Him Lord and Savior of the world. In Christ's name and by His grace we accept our mission of witness and service to all people. We rejoice in God, maker of heaven and earth, and in the covenant of love which binds us to God and one another. Through baptism into Christ we enter newness of life and are made one with the whole people of God. In communion of the Holy Spirit we are joined together in discipleship and obedience to Christ. Within the universal church we receive the gift of ministry and the light of the scripture. In the bonds of Christian faith we yield ourselves to God that we may serve the One whose kingdom has no end. Blessing, glory, and honor be to God forever. AMEN. The Bible Alone As Our Rule And GuideWe hold that the Bible is the author of our faith, with each individual responsible to God for his or her interpretation of God's Word and practice. The Supremacy Of Jesus ChristChrist alone is our Lord and Savior. He is the head of the Church. His Spirit inspires us in Christian proclamation, fellowship and service to all others. The Unity Of All Believers In ChristOur plea is for church unity. In view of this we strive to maintain a cooperative relationship with churches of all denominations. We do not believe that we are the only Christians, but we do seek to be Christians only. Therefore, we invite all who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior to join with us in seeking to live out our faith in a daily walk with our Redeemer. The Two Institutions Of Our ChurchBaptismBaptism is a symbol of the burial of the old self and the birth of the new life that comes to one who accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior by agreeing to unite his or her life with Him. Holy CommunionHoly Communion is an act of remembrance of the death and resurrection of our Lord. It is a time each Sunday when we not only examine our lives in the light of His teachings, but also receive spiritual strength to live more fully in the Presence and Power of our Risen Lord.
